Ferries and Bridges

From the Industrial Canal to the Mississippi River, bridges and ferries are critical transportation links across our region’s numerous water bodies.  They should be designed to accommodate all users – whether they travel on foot, by bike, bus, streetcar, or in a car.  In addition, they should be safe, accessible and receive dedicated funding to support continued operations and maintenance.

St. Claude Avenue Bridge

We believe that retrofits to the St. Claude Avenue Bridge are desperately needed to create safe and accessible crossings for the pedestrians and cyclists that use the bridge daily.

Crescent City Connection

We strongly believe that a sustained and dedicated funding source for operating and maintaining the bridge and West Bank Expressway is needed.

Mississippi River Ferries

Ride New Orleans also recognizes the critical role the Mississippi River ferries provide for alternative transportation users.  In order for the State’s privatization plan to succeed, the Department of Transportation and Development must:

  • Purchase new ferries,
  • Provide an annual operating subsidy,
  • Closely oversee and monitor the private operator,
  • Place a cap on fares, and
  • Develop a contingency plan for sustaining ferry service
