ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Opportunity Pass Pilot Program is making free transit passes available to Orleans Parish residents ages 16 to 24 (anyone born between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2010) through the RTA Le Pass App or via physical paper passes. 

WHO’S ELIGIBLE

You are eligible for the pilot program if you are an Orleans Parish resident between 16-24 years old (anyone born between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2010).  Access to a smartphone is required to enroll in the digital format. If you do not have access to a smartphone with reliable data, you may enroll in the paper pass format.

PROGRAM GOALS

Remove financial barriers to travel for young adults.

Grow ridership for RTA transit service.

Educate the next generation about transit.

Collect data to improve transit for young adults.

Create the skills and confidence for lifelong public transit ridership.

HOW TO SIGN UP

Individuals: Visit any New Orleans Parish Library branch and bring your smartphone. A working smartphone with reliable data is necessary for the digital Opportunity Pass option. If you do not have access to  a working smartphone, you may enroll for the monthly paper pass option.

USING PASSES

Digital Passes: Enrolled participants get a code that unlocks free 1-day Jazzy Passes through the RTA Le Pass app.
Paper Passes:  Enrolled participants can pick up a monthly paper Jazzy Pass from any New Orleans Public Library location.  Paper passes can be picked up every 25 days and are good for 31 days after your first ride – the expiration date will be printed on the back after your first ride. Please keep your paper pass secure, as it cannot be replaced before 25 days.

The pilot program launched on  September 3, 2024 and is currently still going strong!
